New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin issued a statement expressing concern over the Trump Administration’s recent decision to cut funding for programs aimed at addressing hate crimes, violence intervention, and opioid abuse. Platkin criticized the move, stating it undermines public safety in New Jersey.

“Instead of helping to keep our residents safe, the Trump Administration is once again cruelly clawing back critical public safety funding for our state,” Platkin remarked. He emphasized the importance of these initiatives, describing the cuts as both “reckless” and dangerous. According to Platkin, such funding supports efforts like the “No Hate in the Garden State” campaign and other programs that have significantly reduced violent crime rates in New Jersey.

Platkin assured that his office remains committed to these priorities, adding, “We will do everything in our power to restore access to this funding and fight back against reckless federal cuts that do nothing but make our state less safe.”

The cuts have raised concerns over the potential impact on community safety and public health initiatives throughout the state.
