Princeton University Board of Trustees Approves Nine Faculty Appointments

The Princeton University Board of Trustees has recently approved the appointment of nine faculty members, marking a significant development for the institution. Among the new appointments are four full professors, one associate professor, and four assistant professors.

Professor Ada Ferrer, a renowned scholar in Latin American history and Caribbean studies, is set to join Princeton as the Dayton-Stockton Professor of History. Ferrer, who previously taught at New York University, brings a wealth of academic achievements, including prestigious awards such as the Pulitzer Prize in History and the Guggenheim fellowship.

Christopher Harris, specializing in film within the Lewis Center for the Arts, will also be joining Princeton as a full professor. Harris, recognized for his outstanding work in film production, has garnered major awards at international film festivals and holds an M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

J. Kēhaulani Kauanui, an expert in Indigenous Studies, has been appointed as the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Professor of Indigenous Studies. Kauanui, who joins from Wesleyan University, is a prolific author and speaker, having received the American Indian History Lifetime Achievement Award among other honors.

Florencia Torche, focusing on sociology and international affairs, will assume the role of the Edwards S. Sanford Professor of Sociology and International Affairs. Torche, previously at Stanford University, is a highly respected scholar with numerous publications and accolades from prestigious institutions.

Nicolás Pereda, specializing in film and media studies, has been appointed as an associate professor in the Lewis Center for the Arts. Pereda, known for his contributions to the field of film, holds a B.A. and an M.F.A. from York University.

In addition to the full professors, the Board also approved the appointments of three assistant professors. Pauline Carry, an economist specializing in labor economics and public policy, will join the faculty in January 2025. Nicholas Kuipers, focusing on comparative politics, and Temi Ogunye and Arthur Zeyang Yu, both in politics with different areas of expertise, are set to begin their roles in August and September, respectively.

These appointments reflect Princeton University's commitment to academic excellence and diversity in its faculty members. The new additions are expected to contribute significantly to the university's research and teaching endeavors across various disciplines.
