Governor Murphy of New Jersey has strongly condemned the recent decision made by the MTA Board regarding the approval of a congestion pricing tolling scheme. In a statement released on Mar 27, 2024, Governor Murphy expressed his determination to fight against what he perceives as a "blatant cash grab" by the MTA.

"This is far from over and we will continue to fight this blatant cash grab. The MTA’s actions today are further proof that they are determined to violate the law in order to balance their budget on the backs of New Jersey commuters," Governor Murphy stated.

The Governor emphasized his commitment to exploring all available options to protect New Jersey residents from what he considers an unjust tolling scheme. He particularly highlighted his concerns about the scheme discriminating against lower and middle-income drivers in New Jersey.

"We will continue to avail ourselves of every option in order to protect residents on this side of the Hudson from an unfair tolling scheme that discriminates against New Jerseyans, especially lower and middle-income drivers," Governor Murphy affirmed.

The MTA's decision has sparked a strong reaction from Governor Murphy, who is adamant about standing up for the interests of New Jersey commuters in the face of what he perceives as an inequitable policy.
