Attorney General Platkin and the Office of Justice Data have unveiled a new dashboard that provides comprehensive information on permit-to-carry applications in New Jersey. The dashboard aims to enhance transparency and public safety by offering insights into the trends and demographics of individuals applying for permits to carry firearms in the state.

Governor Phil Murphy commended the initiatives, stating, "Our mission is to make New Jersey a safer place to live, work, go to school, and raise a family." He praised the efforts to combat gun violence and underscored the importance of innovative strategies in maintaining New Jersey's status as a national leader in gun safety.

Attorney General Platkin emphasized the significance of transparency in promoting public safety, stating, "The decals can help ensure the increase in people carrying guns doesn't lead to a higher rate of shootings and gun deaths like those experienced in states with less-protective gun laws than New Jersey."

The dashboard, which includes data retroactive to December 2019, offers valuable information on application decisions and anonymized demographic details of applicants. Dr. Kristin Golden, Chief Data Officer for the Office of Justice Data, highlighted the dashboard's utility for researchers, government officials, and the public in understanding the demand for permits to carry in New Jersey.

Various organizations and individuals have expressed support for the initiative. Rev. Dr. Charles F. Boyer emphasized the importance of the dashboard in promoting safety and understanding the impact of firearm applications, particularly in light of recent societal challenges. David Pucino of the Giffords Law Center praised the initiative for advancing public safety and clarity by allowing businesses to communicate their gun policies clearly.

The release of the dashboard has been lauded as a significant step towards transparency and public safety in New Jersey. It provides a means for communities to access accurate information on firearm policies and their effects on society. The data dashboard also serves as a testament to New Jersey's commitment to gun violence prevention and upholding strong gun safety laws in sensitive places.
